we do it!

Poli4Life is an innovative Start-up that deals with the extraction of Polyphenols from the waters resulting from olive oil production (AVO). In other words, from a waste (otherwise destined for disposal) we generate our product, a polyphenolic concentrate that we call Poli4Liquid.
Through an exclusive process - much cheaper than all the existing others - we transform what is “useless” into something precious plus… water.

And all this creating only 0.8% of final waste.

Poli4Life is a company strongly anchored to the territory: we are in Umbria, a region with a great olive-growing vocation, and from our areas we take our raw material (the AVO) which travel only a few kilometres to reach our storage silos.

Polyphenols make up a family of about 5000 natural, semi-natural or synthetic organic molecules widely present in nature.

They are characterized by the presence of multiple associated phenolic groups in more or less complex structures - generally of high molecular weight. The number and characteristics of such phenolic structures underline the unique physical, chemical, and biological properties of particular members of the polyphenol class.
Polyphenols are natural antioxidants present in plants (polyphenolic molecules such as flavonoids known as procyanidins, proanthocyanins, leucoanthocyanidins, piconogenols, tannins, etc.). They are useful in preventing the oxidation of lipoproteins and in reacting with free radicals, eliminating them.
Positive biomedical effects have been reported at cardiovascular level, against diseases related to senescence and skin pathologies. Polyphenols have such a positive effect on human health, that they are sometimes referred to as "vitamin P" in some texts. Many scientific publications confirm the healthy abilities of polyphenols.

ANTIOXIDANT

Protect cells from damage caused by free radicals, which develop with normal cellular metabolism and due to stressful events, such as radiation, smoke, pollutants, UV rays, emotional and physical stress, chemical additives, viral and bacterial attacks etc.

ANTI-INFLAMMATORY

Inhibition of the arachidonic acid cascade.

ANTIBACTERIAL

And antiviral.

ANTICANCEROGENIC

In general, they show an impact on the initial step of cancer development, protecting cells against direct attack by carcinogens or altering their activation mechanism (in vitro). This scientific evidence explains the classic epidemiological evidence that there is a correlation between the consumption of fresh vegetables and a reduced incidence of certain types of cancer (skin, lung, stomach, esophagus, duodenum, pancreas, liver, breast and colon).

ANTIATEROGENE

It is widely reported that the oxidation of lipids and in particular of LDL causes the development of arteriosclerosis and related diseases (stroke, thrombosis and cardiovascular diseases in general - the leading cause of death in Western countries). Polyphenols reduce the clotting of platelets and LDL, inhibit lipoprotein oxidation, act as radical scavenger and modulate the metabolism of eicosanoids.

The concentration of polyphenols in olive oil waters (AVO), from which Poli4Liquid derives, is higher than in olive oil; this is because the molecules under examination are hydrophilic and non-lipophilic. In addition, although hydroxytyrosol is the best-known polyphenol in Poli4Liquid, other Polyphenols are also present and all contribute to the improvement of human health. In fact, polyphenols not only have anti-radical and anti-inflammatory activity but also influence blood circulation, absorption of fats and cholesterol, reduce bacteria and increase cell defences.

Polyphenols and cellular aging

Aging is a very complex process, characterized by a series of successive events that undermine the normal activity of organs, tissues and systems.
The peculiarity of this process is the 360-degree involvement of the whole organism with functional and structural variations that start from microscopic molecules such as proteins, nucleic acids and lipids and that propagate exponentially to the entire cell, tissue, organ, to the apparatus and finally to the human organism in its entirety
For this reason, it becomes important to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying these phenomena and to implement the appropriate remedies.
Among the mechanisms currently most accredited are:

  • damage induced by oxidative stress, and in particular by highly reactive by-products generated by normal metabolism and enhanced by persistent contact with polluting factors such as toxins, microorganisms, chemical-physical agents, foods and xenobiotics;
  • neurodegenerative phenomena, most likely sustained by the deleterious effects of the same oxidizing species on nervous structures;


Of great importance in the prevention of senescence and its complications is the safeguarding of nervous function.
In this context, polyphenols, on the one hand thanks to the ability to chelate metal ions, on the other hand through the ability to neutralize reactive oxygen species, have proved effective, especially in experimental models, in delaying the neurological damage present in example in chronic neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.
However, in addition to the scavenger action, the polyphenols seem to activate specific proteins, such as SIRT1 or sirtuins, involved in cellular protection and longevity, thus highlighting a particularly complex modulatory role.

Polyphenols and cosmetics

The activity described above would also result in maintaining proper tissue oxygenation, and therefore in safeguarding the functionality of different organs and tissues. Photo protective and cosmetological activity.

The impressive antioxidant activity of these compounds has inevitably extended the potential applications of use of polyphenols from anti-aging medicine to cosmetology.
There are several studies in the literature in which this heterogeneous group of molecules has proved useful in:

  • protect the skin from the damaging action of ultraviolet radiation, thus carrying out a valuable anti-photo aging activity, so effective as to reduce the risk of degenerative skin diseases, as observed in different studies in which a significant reduction in local concentrations of hydrogen peroxide and greater activation of fibroblasts;

  • probably intervene in altered gene expression processes in malignant conditions such as melanoma or skin tumors, reducing the activation of genes involved in the process of uncontrolled cell proliferation;

  • preserve skin integrity by protecting cell membranes from lipoperoxidation processes induced by oxidizing species of various kinds, and thus contributing to the "youthful" aesthetic and functional maintenance of the skin;

  • support the local immune defenses from immunosuppression induced by ultraviolet radiation, thus preserving the skin barrier function, which is precious for the protection of the whole organism;

  • reduce the severity and clinical evolution of skin lesions associated with auto-inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, protecting the skin from inflammatory events present in such conditions, regulating the activity of genes involved in the genesis of the inflammatory event.

 

These biological characteristics have thus allowed the polyphenols to enter fully among the anti-aging molecules, so much so that they are included in the formulation of both oral supplements and products for topical use.

Poli4Life

Our main product is a viscous natural extract, rich in polyphenols. From the fruit of the Olea Europaea tree, a Mediterranean plant, olive oil is obtained by cold pressing of the fruit. From the pressing process, water rich in polyphenols is obtained which, through chemical-physical methods, give rise to Poli4Liquid. The product, rigorously standardized and controlled, is characterized by high values ​​of polyphenolic compounds, including - of particular interest for health - hydroxytyrosol, oleuropein, caffeic acid, verbascoside, rutin, luteolin and many others. It is a stable product over time, if properly stored.
The freeze-dried variant of Poli4Liquid, usable for various processes (food supplements, feed additives and base for biopolymers, just to name a few). The Poly4Dry is available only on order, and after quantitative analysis.

The base concentrate (C1) represents the semi-finished product from which the Poli4Liquid is then produced. Characterized by a density slightly higher than water and a very high percentage of total polyphenols, C1 is suitable for those processes that require spraying the product, which would be very problematic using Poli4Liquid, given its density. C1 is a somewhat perishable product so it is to be used within 2-3 months of production.
